February was a weird month. It just dragged on and on and almost felt like it was an extension of January, which is ironic because January was faster than it usually is. So here’s my super late February wrap up.
We’re almost three months into the year and it feels like so much has happened already both. From the US-Iran crisis to Kobe Bryant’s death and now the coronavirus outbreak. It seems like so much bad news in so little time and I honestly wish that things get better. How are you holding up?
BLOG
I finally came out of my long blogging hiatus in February and I have to admit it felt great. I had sidelined my blog because of university and final year woes (so much research work) so it felt good to be tapping away on my keyboard writing a post.
I only published one post and it was on books by Nigerian authors coming out in 2020.
I also got a brand new theme for my blog which I honestly love. I’m glad to be back and I will try my best to keep putting out great bookish content for you guys.
I’ve also decided to start sending out newsletters. It will be about book recommendations, latest blog updates and anything bookish. I want to connect more with my readers, I’m not a huge social media fan so sending emails seems like the best bet. If this is something that sounds interesting to you, you can sign up below.
LIFE
Life After Graduating
My final year in University ended in January and I’ve been a mix of emotions ever since. On one hand, I’m so glad I’m done and I don’t want to look at another engineering textbook ever again.
On the other hand, I think I’ll miss school life just a little. In a way, it was a cocoon around me. Not much was expected of me than to just study hard and pass my exams but now I’m out in the real world, without that cocoon and people are starting to ask what I want to do with my life. And honestly, I really don’t know and for a while I felt bad about it, but you know what its okay to be confused and not know what next to do. It’s okay to just dive in and do whatever you see around you.
So for now, I’ll just focus on my blog and offering freelance services (I offer beta reading and Pinterest Management services) and on resting so I can work off all of the stress and anxiety I built up in university. I’m just going to take things one step at a time. You know, eat one slice of bread at a time and worry that there’s no butter later. Okay that didn’t make much sense, moving on.
Untitled Letter Project
I recently started watching Bojack Horseman and in one of the episodes, the main character writes a letter to a friend as some sort of therapy and at the end, he realizes that he’s good at writing letters or at least he thinks he is.
I’m not going to get all motivational on you and say stuff like sometimes we don’t know how good we are at something unless we do that thing first. But it sort of resonated with me, I feel that I’ve lost touch with my creative side, that I’m a terrible writer and in a way, a terrible human being but maybe I’m just not doing it enough, maybe I need to write my own letter.
I know it sounds cheesy as hell but I decided that from now on I’ll write a letter each week, It could be a letter to myself, to my loved ones to that friend turned enemy that I still think about or a letter to the squirrels that used to run around outside my university room. I’m definitely not sending any of the letters out and I hope I don’t end up in a Lara Jean Covey situation. This is just to make me write more and help me process my emotions. This project is going to be called the Untitled Letter Project.
It gets easier. Every day, it gets a little easier. But you gotta do it every day – that’s the hard part. But it does get easier.
bojack horseman
I might be talking about Bojack Horseman a lot but it’s a great show, an animated tragicomedy, and you should all check it out.
MOVING FORWARD
There should be a section about the books I read last month, but I hardly read anything because I was in a reading slump.
I’m currently reading A Wish In The Dark by Christina Soontornvat. It was recommended to me by Nandini @ Novels and Nebulas, its a Thai inspired middle-grade fantasy retelling of Les Misérables.
Nowadays when I read books I go into full book blogger mode, I make notes as I read, write down some nice witty phrase I can use in the review, my mind is just filled with how to properly review the book that in a way it gets in the way of actually fully enjoying the book.
This has also gotten in the way of creating content because I worry that my content might not be good enough. I feel like I have to review the books even though I don’t want to. It’s all confusing and I’m angry at my brain.
So going forward I’m going to care less about how well the review or bookish content turns out, I’m going to just create.
So here’s what I’ll be focusing on instead
- Creating content for the blog. Expect more book lists, a few reviews, a post about self-hosting and finally a bookish recipe post.
- Revive my newsletter.
- Create videos for IGTV. This is totally new territory for me so I’m nervous.
AROUND THE BLOGOSPHERE
- A good list of light and uplifting middle-grade books to read this period by Nandini @ Novels and Nebulas.
- Fill up your reading list with this book list of 41 books by Asian authors.
- Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books paired her favourite tropes with YA books.
- 12 of the best cookbooks for quarantine cooking and prep.
That’s a wrap. How was February for you? What are your favorite TV shows? Did you read anything good in February?
I hope you’re all in good health, especially with the coronavirus outbreak. We currently have 12 cases here. Wash your hands, stay at home if you can, practice social distancing, read books and don’t be racist. We’ll get through this.

March 22, 2020 at 2:13 PMAh welcome back to blogging life lovely, I remember when I finished college it was very strange because the cocoon of being a student was gone. February was ok for me, I read some good books I think my favourite read of Feb would have to be The Epic Crush of Genie Lo by F C Yee.

March 23, 2020 at 1:46 PMThanks Clo. Yeah, it’s all a little confusing with the cocoon gone but we’ll pull through in the end. Hope you’re well. The Epic Crush of Genie Lo sounds interesting, adding that to my TBR
